Hey guys. I don't know if you have IDP league experience but if you do, when do you start drafting your defensive players? And who should I take first, a punt returning DB, a monster DL, or a great LB?
It all depends on your scoring. I'm currently in a 10 team draft (done through e-mail so it's taking a LONG time) and I took Patrick Willis in the seventh round. We score 1 pt per tackle and .5 pts per assist. He is a tackling machine and was far and away the best defensive player last year in this format...and he was only a rookie.
LBs usually get the most points if your league scores tackles because they get the most tackles, they get sacks, and they get picks. Safeties are the best choice for DBs unless you get points for return yards (in which case, you may want to take a DB over a LB).
I normally draft DL last, but you have to give guys like Jarred Allen a lot of consideration early because he plays TE a few plays and could steal a quick 6 pts for your team.
Overall, after the first 6 or 7 rounds, take the best starter available. There's no point in taking a Jerry Porter if you can get Isaac Bruce 4 rounds later...both are question marks. Take the best starters you can as soon as you can while keeping bye week starters in mind.
Does anyone else do this regularly? I don't think I would like it as much. It seems a little more "random" to me. Plus, it's almost too many numbers/stats to keep up with. I think I would just like the regular offensive players with a team defense thrown in. For those in IDP leagues, do you like them more than regular leagues? Less than regular leagues?...or about the same?
I like it just a little more to be honest. It brings a whole other dimension to the game and puts even more pressure on the owners to make smart decisions while drafting
It's not as hit or miss as you think because some guys are just rock solid from year to year. Brian Urlacher is a great example. Even playing hurt last year, he had very consistent numbers. You just have to do a little research to find out where most guys rank. Type idp rankings into Google and you're good to go.

I have zero experience in drafting IDPs.
