I just had a draft last night and am pretty happy with the results.  The league starts 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 RB/WR, 1 WR/TE, 1 DEF (not STs), 1 K.  I had the 10th position out of the 10 teams...

Scoring: 1pt every 50 yrds passing, 1pt every 20 yards rushing and receiving, 0.5pts for completions, -0.5pts for incompletions, 0.5pts per reception.  All TDs are 6pts.

Here's how it went

1.  Frank Gore - the 0.5 PPR gives him a little more value and I was happy to land him at 10th
2.  Clinton Portis - This choice came down between Portis, Owens, and
Brees.  I decided in a 10 team league, there should be decent value at
QB and WR when it got back to me so I solidified my RB core
3.  Houshmandzadeh - WRs were flying off the board so I wanted to get a good one
4.  Big Ben - In a league where yardage is not important, Big Ben could be a top 3 QB if he puts up numbers like last year (32 TDs, 11 INTs)
5.  Thomas Jones - I may have made a small bet that Ricky was going to have a better year, but I'm not betting my flex spot on it.  When I made this choice, I was still hoping to land Ricky later, but I wanted to see how far he'd drop.  He still went in the 10th
6.  Kellen Winslow - Great value in the 6th round
7.  Minnesota - I felt lucky to get them at the end of the seventh.  SD and NE went before them and with STs not giving extra points, I think this is the best D for this type of league.
8.  Donald Driver - Needed a #2 WR and he was the best
available.  It's being reported he's having some drop issues this camp,
but I think he just needs to get use to Rodgers throwing style
9.  Nate Burleson - Driver and Housh have the same bye, which I don't mind, but I wanted some quality depth at WR for the week 8 WR depletion I'll see.  Burleson will be a good starter in the WR/TE flex spot
10.  Heath Miller - I should have taken Ricky here, but I couldn't pass up a quality TE backup, especially one I can starter in the WR/TE flex spot.  It's nice to have a QB/TE combo plus it hurts other teams who may not have nearly the quality at starting TE.
11.  Brett Favre -  He plays Cincy at home during Big Ben's bye.  I think I got a steal as late as I got him
12.  Patrick Crayton - much like SteelCity's draft, Crayton fell in this draft as well.  There's no reason for it that I can figure out.  He had good numbers last year including 7 TDs.  He's still the #2 WR in Dallas and an excellent value this late in the draft.
13.  Jabar Gaffney - I'm looking for Gaffney to improve his numbers from last year since he'll now play opposite Moss for the whole year and not play second fiddle to Stallworth for most of it.  He may get to 7 or 8 TDs considering he had 5 last year in his limited role.
14.  Ray Rice - NOOOO.  Chris Johnson was taken the pick just before my back to back picks.  I was a little disappointed, but I'm ok with getting Rice.  There are rumors that McGahee could actually be cut if he continues to struggle with injuries and work ethic (which is reported to be fairly poor).  If that happens and Rice is the starter, this is absolutely the best pick of the draft.
15.  DeShaun Foster - Just insurance against a Gore injury
16.  Josh Morgan - My Colston pick.  In his latest preseason game, he had 5 catches for 114 yards and a TD.  I'm telling you, watch this guy....
17.  Mason Crosby - the last pick in the draft, meaning 9 kickers went over him.  I think he may be the best kicker this year as GB still has the talent to move down the field, but will have a harder time reaching the end zone.

So tell me what you think

Strengths -- Solid RB duo.  Top 2 TE in the 6th round.  Big Ben could thrive in a TD-oriented league.  Getting TJ in Round 5 is nice...he'll be better than your boy Ricky.  Wink  Top 2 Defense in Round 7.

Weakness -- The only one I see is that I'm not enamored with your WRs.  TJ Housh is a fringe #1 & I'm not sure how Driver will do with Rodgers.  All the other teams probably have more elite wideouts overall.   Like you've said before, unless you are drafting in a league with "fantasy morons", you can't have a strength in every position.  I think WRs are your weakness.

Best Picks -- Winslow in Round 6.  Minny D in Round 7.  Favre in Round 11.  I REALLY like that you got Favre because Big Ben has a tough schedule.  He plays good D's like San Diego, Dallas, NY Giants, etc.  You might spot-start Favre with certain matchups if he's working out in New York.  I love the Favre pick.

Worst Pick -- Not that it was "bad", but I don't think I would have taken Heath Miller in Round 10 even with a flex position available.  Of course, it's hard for me to evaluate since I don't know what else was available at the time.   He's a fringe #1 TE who you probably wouldn't play even over a solid #3 WR or RB.  Now, maybe I'm underrating Miller...we'll see.  (I hope I am because I have him in our draft auction league... Wink)

Overall, great work as usual.  I'm sure this team will be a contender.  It reminds me of my team in our Auction League.  My team doesn't have THE elite QB, RB, or WR...but it is very balanced.  I think yours is the same way here.

What else can i say the Jetman said it all.. You could always look to package one of your RB's to updgrade your WR?

GREAT JOB!!!

hmmm...112 receptions, 12 TDs...fringe #1 WR?  Really...in a TD heavy league where there's a half a point per reception?  In this type of scoring format, can you name anyone outside of R.Moss, TO, and Edwards that had better years?  Granted, AJ would have if he was healthy, but who else?

You really can't expect me to have two #1s while having two #1s at RB, a top D, a top QB, and a top TE.  I thought I had good value with my reserve receivers as well (Crayton with 7 TDs, Burleson with 9 TDs, and Gaffney with a decent chance to improve on his 5).

Don't get me wrong, they are the weakest part of the team, but I think they're still a very good.  Guess this will be another case where we agree to disagree.  I like my WRs overall considering the rest of the guys I have on the team.

As for Miller, he was better than any WRs available at the time.  I've heard he's going to be used more this year and knowing some other teams still needed a TE, I was able to get a good backup (Winslow's not the most durable guy) and hurt other teams on top of that.

Nice draft Dooms!  I've never been a 10 team league, so I can only imagine its safe to wait an extra round or two to grab someone you were targeting.  I also feel your RB's are pretty solid.  I think the Ray Rice grab was great for the 14th round.  I'd take anyone that backs up McGahee, cause he'll be starting at somepoint in the season.  For obvious reasons I like Ben in the 3rd.  There's no reason he shouldn't put up at least the same numbers as last year, with Holmes  and Ward.  Sweed is going to add another dimension as well.  I really like Winslow and the Vikes D.

My draft is on Tue, and I'm hoping to do as well as everyone else in here seems to be!

Yes, a fringe #1.  TJ Housh is consistently ranked 8th or 9th. in any format.  He slowed down significantly at the end of 2007.  I would rather have Moss, TO, Wayne, Edwards, AJ, Fitz, and Colston in any format.  All of these guys could easily get 90 catches if healthy, and I don't think TJ will get 112 more in 2008.  Plus, those 7 all have the chance to explode in 2008.  PPR does make him more valuable, but in a 10-team league, I consider him a low-end #1 WR.  (Especially since it is 1/2 pt instead of 1 pt per reception).

I didn't expect you to have #1s in every position -- that's part of fantasy football.  I just think your WRs are probably weak compared to other teams.  I believe you have the 8th. best WR as your #1, and you waited until the 8th round to grab your 2nd. one.  Not saying you were wrong to do that.  I'm saying that because you made your team strong in all other positions, you sacrificed WRs a bit.

I'm sure there are many other teams with combos like TO & Holmes, AJ & Boldin, or Edwards & Cotchery (something like that)-- I would like those combos better.  Then again, those teams probably don't have the RB, TE, & D strength that you do.

That's all I'm saying...

Gotcha.  Yeah, in this format, WRs went fast since people could start up to three.  This is by far the most competitive league I've been in and everyone drafts really well.  Players slip once in a while (like Favre), but overall, it's a great league.  Maybe my average at best WRs can pull through (couldn't resist)  Wink

Cool.   If you are in a competitive fantasy football league, there is no way you can have strengths in every position.  Yes, I do think you have an "average at best" WR crew.  Wink  However, not seeing the rest of the league, I'll bet you have a Top 1-3 RB tandem, a Top 2 TE, a Top 2 D, and a Top 5 or 6 QB.  You also probably have the best QB depth with 2 viable #1 starters.   Therefore, your team should be one of the teams to beat.  And, if Burleson, Driver, or Crayton can step it up, you could easily win this league.

GREAT JOB. not only were the picks great, you provided much needed info. Ya made me feel great about the few picks we had just about the same. H miller will be a nice surprise this year. Ben may not not have all day to throw, and miller is a safe target along with hines ward.
Please give me more info on josh morgan, you seem big on this player, i will take any hot info.

Overall, really a nice job. THANKS

Good job of drafting, Doomsday.  Big Ben is poised to once again put up some big numbers.  Your starting RB duo of Gore & Portis should work out well for you in this format.  Jones should see an increase in balls thrown his way with Favre at the helm and this trio of RB's should help to offset your receivers.  What I also like is that you drafted some receivers later on with upside that have the potential to step up for you.  I like it.  I like it alot.

Well, to go along with the 5 catches 114 yards (and a TD) he caught in his second preseason game, he caught 4 passes for 68 yards in his first (and that was in one half of play).

Here's a good article I found on him.

One more thing I read on USA Today.  On August 12, Mike Nolan said Morgan could win a starting job by opening day.  He recently stopped short of calling Morgan a starter, but with Bryant Johnson banged up, Morgan has a good shot with a few more performances like that.
