Flyers Stumble into Playoffs

The Philadelphia Flyers entered Easter Sunday needing only a point to clinch home-ice advantage for the opening round of the NHL Playoffs against the Pittsburgh Penguins. They hosted the New York Rangers today and took a 3-2 lead into the 3rd but were unable to hold on, eventually losing 4-3. That the Flyers have been wildly inconsistent this season is an understatement. Since March 1st, they have played only .500 hockey, having gone 11-11 including today's loss. In round one they will face the team responsible for dispatching them from last season's Eastern Conference Finals. Today's game had a playoff type atmosphere about it and it was a test the Flyers failed. Going up against a very talented and hot Penguins team doesn't bode well for Philadelphia. The Flyers are also a talented team but a team that seems to lack an identity. Can they do it? They will need to find themselves in an awful hurry to have that chance. The way things look at the moment, it's not impossible however it's also probably not very likely either.

The keystone match, part 2. Im really excited the flyers and pens are playing. I agree with southerneagle on the flyers recent play, but thats all forgotten now. Its playoff time, a new season starts. with that said, i feel this series should go 7 games, and be the gem of the first round. both teams have ton of offence talent, while the pens have 2 of top 3 scorers in NHL, flyers have 4 30 goal scorers, and 6 20 goal shooters, by far much more fire power from last years eastern final team. Both teams scored same total in goals and different only by 1 in goals given up. So this match up is even in a lot of ways. Special teams and goalies will determines who advances here, flyers love physical play, and will use it to slow down the pens.

with that said, pens may be able to draw a few 2 minutes, and would need to cash in on the PP.Biron will need to be big in pentaly kill, and flyers will have to build off biron. Im going homer of course and say Pens in 7, but it will be close, and will sure cause myself a few more extra gray hairs after this one, GOOD LUCK SOUTHERNEAGLE!!!!! Congrates on your Flyers great season!!!!

Good luck to you as well, my friend. You make a good point about the playoffs being a new season. I'd certainly like to see the Flyers cut down on giveaways and get some consistency going but we'll have to see. Your comment could easily be a playoff preview blog. Well done.
