PHILADELPHIA (BASN) -- Last week, Michael Vick donned a Philadelphia Eagles uniform with the number 7. This will be the fourth time number seven will be on the field in Philly green.

A Happy Father's Day

FATHERS

June 2009

A few years ago a friend invited me to attend Sunday morning worship service at St. Paul’s AME, African Methodist Episcopal Church in Berkeley, California on FATHERS Day.

Upon entering this beautiful new building you could hear male voices singing the praises of the Lord.

Singing for their happiness and their salvation. It sure sounded like they were enjoying themselves this Sunday.

One of Saint Paul’s ushers guided me to the designated area for the disabled which was the first pew in the front of the church. Sitting next to me was a family of six.

FIRST NATION vs. THE WASHINGTON FOOTBALL CLUB

FIRST NATION vs. The Washington Football Club

In the year 2009, in the year when Americans elected their first African American President, the year when the Speaker of the House is a female and the first lady in the White House is a proud African American, the year when people of color are still fighting the fight for equality in the sports world.

Professional teams are still using derogatory and defaming logos and names for their teams. The National Football League’s Washington D.C. Football Club and Major League Baseball’s Cleveland Indians are the number one culprits.

How did the Redskins do?

I don't think they did that good. Not bad but not great either. I thought we need help on the line and Michael Oher was there but they pass on him? I didn't see Orakpo in college much but he's supposed to be very good. Was OL not a much greater need than DE and Orakpo? You guys are knowlegable can you tell me what you think of our draft?

Jets Draft Review

This is going to be short & sweet...much like the Jets' draft. The Jets clearly went for quality over quantity by making only 3 picks. The 3rd. pick is a Nebraska Guard that I know nothing about. Obviously, the key to the draft is Mark Sanchez. I thought it was a bold move by the Jets...and a good move. They made a mistake picking Kellen Clemens to be the franchise QB 2 years ago -- it was time to admit that mistake. You need an elite QB to realistically compete for a championship. Sanchez has a chance to be that elite QB.

Steelers Draft Review

The steelers during this off season need to address a few issues for 2009. The loss of CB Mcfadden and WR Nate Washington in Free Agent market left the champs filling some holes. Plus a def line that is showing some age. The Colbert/Tomlin draft went very well, and I feel not only added depth, but filled the holes I spoke of.

1st RD - Evander "Ziggy" Hood DE, 6-2 300lbs Missouri

HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS!

Talk about an arrogant organization. Last time I checked, Dallas didn't make the playoffs last season. In fact if I remember correctly, the last we saw of them, Cowboys players walked off the field looking up at the lights shining off the scoreboard at Lincoln Financial Field that read, EAGLES 44, COWBOYS 6.

Eagles Draft Review

After trading out of the first round the past couple years, it was nice to see the Eagles actually draft a player and an offensive player to boot. They moved up a couple spots to #19 and took Jeremy Maclin, wide receiver from Missouri.

Pens/Flyers Game 6

So far, the "In Our Opinion" series has been very hard hitting, and entertaining more than I thought it would. By entertaining, I dont mean the Malkins or Richards making great plays( notice i left out crosby), I mean the different drama that has unfolded during this playoff match up. The pure love of the pens, and especially our hero, sid the kid, or as the flyers faithful like to call him, sid the %$$ @#$%. If you dont know what that is, southerneagle can fill you in, lol

John Madden Retires

Whether you loved him or hated him, John Madden was the voice of the NFL (Not to be confused with Harry the K, THE voice of NFL Films). His quirky analogies weren't a fan favorite and at times he would ramble on about something for 5 plays while his broadcasting partners would try to get a word in about the game going on NOW. That said, his knowledge of the game, the nuts and bolts and nuance of each play going on was phenomenal, even if his delivery of this info to the listening was a little overwhelming to a fan who has never played a down in their life.
